A small stream kept us company as we approached the end of our route.
We spotted this carved-up mountain from our railcar. The mountain’s surface texture reminded me of the mountains being carved by the Mendenhall Glacier. It’s astonishing to conceptualize a giant river of ice gradually chiseling this enormous rock formation.
Far off in the distance you see two small white specks. Those are ninety-thousand-ton cruiseships. The ship on the right is our ship, Radiance of the Seas. The train was about halfway into our route when this scene presented itself. Two more cruiseships were docked to the left of the two ships pictured here.
Here’s the end of our route. The locomotive switched tracks, rolled past us, connected to the other end of the train, and headed back down the mountainside. Notice the cloud covering the mountaintop on the left of the photo and the narrow-gauge track.
Becky and I were both a little nervous as the train rolled over this wooden tressel. Notice the little exhaust flues atop the boxcars. Small heaters inside the boxcars provide comfort for guests when the weather is less friendly.
