Along our hike we met this little fellow who didn’t mind having his picture taken. There were about five people in our group who were armed with cameras. We got within three to four feet of this guy as he chomped away on some acorns. We even used our flashes. Obviously, Mr Squirrel has grown accustomed to tourists. Actually, our tourguide, Amy, said that about ten thousand people hike the Chilkoot trail each year, so Mr Squirrel likely has had quite a bit of experience with tourists.
Have you ever seen an active eagle’s nest? They’re huge! Amy said that the average nest weighs roughly five hundred pounds. And speaking of eagle trivia, guess how many feathers the typical bald eagle has. Amy says 7182 plus or minus 20.
Here’s a photo of Becky and me with the Tayia River in the background. The fellow who took this photo is from Orlando, Florida, and also sailed aboard the Norwegian Sun.
Here’s another couple who stopped to have a photo of themselves made along the trail. The groom is a doctor in the Washington, D.C./Maryland area and bride is, uh, well, she’s just unbelievably gorgeous.
Amy shows us where a bear had made his mark along the trail. Seeing this made me hope we didn’t encounter any bears! Amy actually lives in Skagway year-round.
